Roadchef And GRIDSERVE Announce Electric Medium Power Charging Hub At Strensham Southbound
Roadchef and GRIDSERVE have announced the launch of its brand new Medium Power Electric Hub at Strensham Southbound, located on the M5. The partners announced their plans to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities at Roadchef Motorway Service Areas (MSA) in the UK over the summer, and have since opened the first of four new Electric Super Hubs at Watford Gap North and South (M1), Sandbach Southbound (M6) and Chester (M56).
These plans have been put in place to urgently deliver on an expanded charging network as part of the Roadchef’s wider sustainability focus and agenda to support Britain’s journey to be safer and greener.
Paul Comer, Director of EV Implementation at Roadchef, said: “With the triumphant launch of our first Electric Super Hubs at Watford Gap North and South, Sandbach Southbound and Chester, we're thrilled to extend our commitment to sustainable travel at Strensham Southbound. As the EV revolution gains momentum, it's imperative for our facilities to evolve accordingly. Expanding our Electric Hub network with GRIDSERVE at Strensham Southbound marks a significant stride towards meeting the soaring demand and steering our journey towards a greener future.”
The new site sees four GRIDSERVE Medium Charger bays delivering up to 100kW of power. Strensham Southbound had been without chargers until now and the new Medium Power chargers not only bring the location in line with other Roadchef sites, but also extend the capacity to almost double that of the standard Medium Power chargers on the network. Further development of the site at Strensham Southbound will follow next year with planning in place for GRIDSERVE High Power chargers to be added to serve the growing number of passing EV drivers.
Roadchef currently has over 40 GRIDSERVE Medium Power chargers and 24 standalone AC chargers across 29 sites. Further EV charging expansion will be announced as plans accelerate into 2024
