Roadchef And GRIDSERVE Announce Electric Super Hub At Strensham Northbound
GRIDSERVE and Roadchef have announced their newest Electric Super Hub at Strensham Northbound services, located on the M5. The partners announced their plans to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities at Roadchef Motorway Service Areas (MSA) in 2023 and have since seen seven Electric Super Hubs launch across the UK.
Consisting of three of the world’s fastest chargers at each site, allowing six vehicles to charge simultaneously, Strensham North is also being fitted with Energy Storage Systems, funded by National Highway. This will allow the storage of energy in quiet periods to provide more power during the busier times of the day. New battery software will be available in early 2024, which will provide High Power charging, until then the location is temporarily using a dynamic load sharing system on a smaller grid connection.
To make it as easy as possible for customers to charge their EVs, all GRIDSERVE Electric Super Hubs feature CCS connectors, accept contactless payment, and provide real-time status updates to a myriad of popular EV charging maps. The chargers are powered by 100% net zero carbon energy supporting GRIDSERVE’s purpose to move the needle on climate change.
Paul Comer, Director of EV implementation at Roadchef, said: “At Roadchef, we are committed to supporting Britain’s journey to become safer and greener, which is why we have rolled out another Electric Super Hub at Strensham North. As more people travel on the roads using EV’s, it is vital to expand our facilities, enabling us to deliver rapid high-charging facilities across our MSA’s. We are certain that the expansion of our Electric Super Hubs, which reflects Roadchef’s wider sustainability focus, is a step towards achieving the UK’s goal of becoming net zero by 2050.”
Toddington Harper, CEO of GRIDSERVE, said: “GRIDSERVE is working at speed and scale with Roadchef to ensure EV drivers can find reliable and convenient charging across the UK’s motorways. We are proud to open another Electric Super Hub with Roadchef as we strive to give more drivers the confidence to go electric and make a meaningful step in journey to decarbonising transport. We look forward to opening more Electric Super Hubs at Roadchef locations soon.”
Roadchef now have over 50 High Power chargers, over 40 GRIDSERVE Medium Power chargers and 24 standalone AC chargers across 29 sites. Further EV charging expansion will be announced as plans accelerate in 2024.
