History & trivia of Pont Abraham
Pont Abraham services is a service station that contains a lot of history surrounding the construction and planning of motorway services, this is due to it being one of the first sites overseen by the Welsh office. Historically all service station planning had been conducted by the Ministry of Transport, but when the M4 was built this authority was passed onto the Welsh office. Being such a large task the Welsh office opened the planning and locations to private investors; BP had taken a keen interest in the site, they proposed working with Roadchef and in 1983 Pont Abraham service station first opened. There has been minimum renovations until 2015 when the popular Roadchef brands were introduced, this primarily included the introduction of McDonalds and Costa Coffee, replacing some of the previously out-dated buildings that were built on the initial construction.
