Roadchef Recognised As One Of Britain’s Best Big Companies To Work For In 2022 Q1

Roadchef, one of the country’s leading motorway service area providers, has been voted as one of the top best big companies to work for in the UK in the 2022 Best Companies awards for Q1. The organisation was placed seventh on the overall national list, making it the only one of the big three MSA operators with Best Companies accreditation. Roadchef has also been recognised as the fourth best company to work for in the leisure and hospitality industry, as well as making it onto a further eight regional lists for one of the best companies to work for in the North East, Scotland, Wales, North West, West Midlands, East Midlands, South West and South East.

The Best Companies awards are renowned throughout the UK for setting the highest of standards for workplace engagement. Companies that receive accreditations care about doing things right, value their people and understand the importance of a truly engaged workforce.

Roadchef CEO Mark Fox commented: “We are thrilled to be named number seven in the list of best big companies to work for in the UK for 2022 Q1, as we have long recognised that our workforce is our most valuable asset. This award is testament to the brilliant teams of people we have at Roadchef and we take pride in being a place that people enjoy working at. It is our vision to destress and delight Britain’s road users and the Roadchef highly engaged teams across the country are integral to making this a reality.”

Roadchef’s commitment to operating in a sustainable way was one of the standout areas of success. It was the first MSA in the UK to introduce solar panels to most of its sites, a move which has reduced carbon emissions by 480 tonnes per year, and 99% of its waste is diverted from landfill. It was also the first in the UK to introduce return-reward machines, encouraging customers to recycle their plastic bottles and paper cups in exchange for a money-off voucher.

Furthermore, Best Companies has recognised Roadchef’s commitment to providing opportunities for all its team members who wish to progress their career. The Fastlane scheme, introduced in 2012, supports high-potential individuals to develop and has enabled the company to fill more than 65% of its management vacancies with internal candidates.

Commenting on the company’s commitment to their employees, Roadchef’s HR Director Laura Bunn said: “We are dedicated to investing in our team members to provide them with the tools and opportunities to develop and progress through the business. Our Fastlane scheme has been carefully designed to support us in continuing to develop our existing people as well as the progression of external candidates who are able to reach a management role quickly within the business. It’s schemes like this which make Roadchef one of the best big companies to work for in Britain and we couldn’t be more proud.”

The Best Companies award comes just after Roadchef won the Best Health & Wellbeing Programme category at the Incentive Awards, which recognised the company’s support for its employees’ physical and mental health. This included financial support to help employees manage their finances, such as a new wagestream solution allowing employees to draw down on a percentage of their earned wages ahead of pay day, and the introduction of hardship loads to support the most financially vulnerable employees. Wellbeing booklets with a wealth of information and solutions were also provided to all employees, including details of local support organisations. A new suite of e-learning training sessions were made available to all, including modules on Wellbeing, Mental Health, Stress, Depression, Anxiety and Anxiety Disorders. Additionally, mental health first aid training has been offered to over 30 members of staff.
